Jessica Simpson

7/16/2009

By now we’ve all heard the news; Tony Romo has dumped Jessica Simpson.  However, Jessica’s story began long before her relationship with the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.  The Texas-born pop star became a household name when she starred in the MTV reality show Newlyweds with her then husband, Nick Lachey, former member of the boy band 98 degrees.

Simpson’s early focus was on dance and she was on the competition circuit, which also included vocal contests. She was encouraged her to enter a competition when her dance instructor noticed that Jessica had a talent for singing and in her first stab at it, she won. Word came of a chance to audition for the new Mickey Mouse Club and needless to say the 12-year-old jumped at it. “I did a dance to ‘Ice Ice Baby’ and an acappella version of ‘Amazing Grace.’ There were 50,000 kids who auditioned and I got to go to Florida with the final eight.”
She received a letter from Disney saying she hadn’t made it; She was heartbroken, particularly when so many people she knew had made it: Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling and Keri Russell.

After 3 years of marriage, on the day before Thanksgiving in 2005, the reality TV power couple separated and later divorced. Simpson eventually rebounded with singer John Mayer and was most recently known to be dating Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.   Their relationship recently ended when Romo reportedly saw text messages on Jessica’s phone from her ex, John Mayer.

Simpson returned to the music scene in 2008 with a new single, "Come On Over," off of her country album, Do You Know. When her album debuted in September, it hit No. 4 on the Billboard album chart, selling 65,000 copies.

Do we all still adore and love Jessica Simpson?  Of course we do, why without her, some of us would still be wondering if “Chicken of the Sea” was tuna or chicken.
