The term “outercourse” first showed up in the American Heritage Diction in the year 2000. It simply means scratching an itch for sex without, as we put it in my teenage years: “going all the way.”
Sexual, intimate and even orgasmic lovemaking without penetration also carries with it a tantalizing element of the forbidden. Maybe it is the poignant memory of very early attempts at sex that were so exciting that, well, things were over before they really got started. Or, it could be the added stimulus of dry humping with your clothes on, limiting your play to oral sex or moving mutual masturbation into a steamy, soapy shower.
