Take care of your toys, and they’ll take care of you. Another piece of advice: never put off till tomorrow what you can do today. It’s important to clean your sex toys as soon as possible after each use to prohibit bacterial growth. Fortunately, most sex toys are easily cleaned in warm soapy water. However, with the advent of dildos and vibrators in materials such as jelly, glass and Cyberskin, there are new cleaning methods and products designed to maintain a toy’s life-like texture and extend its life. Do also take special care with your vibe to be sure not to get the mechanical parts wet. Cleaning Methods Silicone is a great material choice for sex toys for many reasons. It’s smooth, soft and flexible, so it feels like real skin and even retains body heat. Silicone is non-porous. If your silicone toy is completely waterproof, it can be cleaned in the dishwasher or boiling water. Soap and hot water or a sex toy cleaner such as Essentials Toy Cleaner are OK, as well. Glass toys are made from medical grade borosilicate glass (hard glass or Pyrex), which is lead free. The advantage of a glass dildo or anal plug is the ability to change its temperature from warm and life-like to shockingly cold. Like silicone, glass is non-porous and can be disinfected in boiling water, in the dishwasher, with soap and water or with a sex toy cleaner. Cyberskin toys have a very realistic feel to them. The material, thermal plastic, is extremely flexible, but like "memory foam" it reverts back to its original form. The drawback is that Cyberskin is extremely porous, making it more difficult to disinfect properly. The best way to protect this toy is to use it with a condom. Again, cleaning soon after use is important. Use warm soap and water, then after drying, apply the special talc that comes with the toy to maintain its lifelike texture. Jelly sex toys are made of rubber and very flexible. They are very porous and should be used with a water-based lubricant and a condom. Heat and the chemicals in soap will weaken and dissolve jelly toys, so clean them with warm water only or a sex toy cleaner intended for use with jellies. Latex sex toys offer firmness like plastic, but with a bit of flexibility like jelly or Cyberskin toys. Use a water-based lubricant. Oil- and petroleum-based lubes will break down latex. They can be cleaned with soap and water, rubbing alcohol or sex toy cleaner. Plastic provides a smooth, rigid surface most desirable in vaginal vibrators. With no soft casing to absorb the vibrations, the sensation is most intense. Plastic sex toys are easy to clean using a paper towel with rubbing alcohol or soap and hot water, but they can melt in boiling water or the dishwasher. Storage If your sex toy is battery operated, make sure you remove the batteries if you don’t plan to use the toy again for a week or more. Batteries contain highly corrosive chemicals that can leak over time, and if you store your toys in one place, the loss could be catastrophic. Wrap the toy in a clean towel, and store in a cool dry place. Wrap the batteries separately. You might also want to hide your collection from prying eyes by placing it in a Sugar Sak. These draw-string bags come in three sizes with red, black or hot pink fabric on the outside and on the inside, a snazzy lint-free leopard print coated with Bioshield 75, an EPA-approved and patented coating, that naturally inhibits the growth of bacteria, yeast, mildew and viruses. Or, hide your toys in plain view in a velvet-lined toy chest. And be sure to keep your toys away from pets. Not only do the interesting scents attract chew-happy dogs, but you don’t want Fido playing fetch with your favorite dildo when, say, your mother-in-law is visiting. | |

I was thinner when I had more sex. I blame my husband's decreased libido for my additional 10 pounds. Bastard. |
