How to Use Scent Nothing affects you more immediately than the sense of smell. The nerves in the nose are connected directly with the part of the brain that controls the emotions. Other senses take more round-about routes to the brain. But the body reacts to smells so fast you don’t even have time to think about it.

Reactions to different smells are very individual. What smells great to one person may smell disgusting to someone else.

Consider this list of scents recommended by herbalists for their erotic, aphrodisiac fragrances:

  • Ylang ylang
  • Sandalwood
  • Jasmine
  • Ginger
  • Rose
  • Orange blossom
  • Patchouli
  • Juniper
  • Basil

Now, I like some of these scents, especially sandalwood, orange blossom and rose. But patchouli and jasmine make me gag.

And you may be just the opposite. So it’s important to find a scent that turns you on, and that your partner also enjoys, before you drench yourself or your bedroom in it.

To find the right scent for both of you, pick out a sampler of scented oils and spend a pleasant evening with your partner trying out different scents.

Each person’s skin exudes its own scent. You are looking for a fragrance or combination of fragrances that smells good on both of you, and gets better as the night gets hot and sweaty.

Some experimentation is called for. Naturally, the scientists have been at work investigating the question of what scents people find most arousing. Their findings are intriguing. They found that men are most aroused by scents associated with baking like vanilla, cinnamon, and chocolate, while women find strawberry and other fruit fragrances most erotic.

Other studies found that most people respond positively to citrus scents, such as lime or orange, and to evergreen scents, such as juniper. Herbalists say these aromas clear away negative feelings and make communication easier.

You may be wondering whether to choose a fragrance with pheromones added. These natural scents are what help humans, and all other mammals, find their mates. In both men and women the amount of pheromones the body creates naturally peaks at about age 18, and then declines steadily. Adding pheromones to your perfume or cologne can enhance your attractiveness to others. Selecting a lube or massage oil laced with pheromones may heighten sexual intensity and increase feelings of bonding.

Incidentally, you may have heard that the pheromones of a human male are similar to those of a male hog. Don’t worry, though, your pheromone cologne won’t have you smelling like a pig. Modern techniques remove the strong smell while leaving the essential molecules behind to work on the subconscious level.

Once you have decided on a special scent, there are a number of ways to add it to your environment:

  • Perfumes and colognes: For best effects, don’t just spray your scent randomly over your body, or waste it on your clothes. Apply to your pulse points, where the warmth of your body will spread the scent naturally around you. Don’t forget your neck, your temples, your forearms, behind your knees, under your arms, between your “cheeks.”
  • Body oils and butters: Massage a cinnamon or vanilla oil into your breasts for irresistibly Hot Hooters. Both top the list of scents men love.
  • Scented and flavored Lubricants: Many women find a fruit-flavored gel applied to the male member makes giving head more fun.
  • Candles and oil diffusers: Put a drop of scented oil on a light bulb to send the aroma throughout the room.
  • Herbal sachets: Fill a gauze bag with sensual herbs and use it to scent your clothes or for a soothing scrub in the tub.
  • Bath oils and gels, bath salts and bubble baths: Bathing in a scent, either together or alone, leaves you relaxed, deliciously scented and ready for love.
  • Many women fantasize about making love in a Bed of Roses with fragrant petals scattered beneath them. It’s not surprising. The scent of roses has been a favorite aphrodisiac for thousands of years.
