What Makes It an Adult DVD?

The world of adult DVDs is quickly growing and gaining popularity all across the world with each passing year. The films that are featured on adult DVDs were originally only referred to as pornographic films. Pornographic films are motion pictures with the sole purpose of promoting sexual arousal in whoever is viewing it. These types of films often include depictions of sexual activities of varying degrees. In Europe in the 1960s, many of the attitudes towards the depictions of sexuality began to shift. In Europe, there were two movies that were made that were very sexually explicit, but they were made into pseudo documentaries which is what pushed their legal status into an unknown and uncertain place. These two movies were I Am Curious and Karlekens Sprak. Both of these movies were from the year 1969 which was the same year that hardcore pornography became legalized in some countries. Hardcore pornography is a form of adult films that only depict very explicit sexual acts. This phrase was developed because they needed some way to distinguish this type of film from softcore pornography, which showed nudity in a very sexually arousing way, but never actually showed any type of sexual activity. Denmark was the pioneer country with regards to sexuality and pornography when they made the decision to legalize hardcore porn in 1969. This legalization opened many new doors and shifted the way people had viewed this type of film. Denmark quickly began producing feature films that starred mainstream actors in very hardcore pornographic scenes. These mainstream actors were typically not thought of as porn stars, but since this was the type of theatrical film being made, they were the obvious choice at the time. It was not until the seventies that the United States began to allow adult films to be screened in movie theaters; this was known as the rise of XXX rated films. At the same time that this was going on, many sex shop owners were installing coin operated movie booths that displayed pornographic loops, an adult film that is arranged in a continuous loop. Deep Throat was one of the very first and notable American hardcore porn feature films and it was distributed in movie theaters throughout the country. This film, among a few others, were received very well and gained a particular type of social acceptance. This acceptance eventually led to the rise of the term porno chic and this gave way to somewhat of a cultural trend. The 1970s in America is what ultimately paved the way for adult DVDs and claimed the acceptance that it has today.
